Alagappa University
Alagappa University has emerged from the galaxy of institutions initially established at Karaikudi by Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar. It is situated on a spacious and ideal length of approximately 420 hectares in the central business district of Karaikudi in Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu. Karaikudi is four hundred km south of Madras, Madras - Rameswaram line and is Thiruchirappalli and Madurai in about two hours.
Alagappa University was established by
special act of the Government of Tamil Nadu in May 1985 to research, development and dissemination of knowledge to promote the various disciplines. It is recognized by UGC. It has 18 departments, five centers and two constituent colleges on campus. Twenty Eight Affiliated Colleges situated in areas of Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga are part of universities.
Alagappa University offers training through the week-end, regular, distance and collaboration modes. Distance Education department offers a variety of student programs is distributed in the country and certain other countries. By all forms of education, the university will meet the needs of the student community of around 1,00,000.
Alagappa University has an Instrumentation Centre , a strong Computer Centre and a well equipped Central Library to meet the requirements of staff and students of various Disciplines.
